Flooding information links
In 2009 the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act brought about significant changes in responsibilities relating to flood prevention. More information about the Act can be found online at Stirling Council's website and at the Scottish Government's environment legislation microsite.
Despite the impact of Government and Council cuts Stirling's Flood Prevention team have been making good progress and are keen to strengthen links with Callander's community to improve flood reporting and diagnosis so that contributing factors that can be fixed are fixed. The message from them is: whenever there's a flood, please call them while it's still happening as this makes it much easier for them to work out exactly why it's occurring. Call Stirling Council's switchboard on 0845 277 7000 and ask for Flood Prevention.
Note that if the cause of a flood, such as a blocked or broken rainwater drain, is on private property then the property's owner is legally obliged to fix it. However, it can be much cheaper to sort out these problems if their exact location can be pinpointed, and Stirling Council's Flood Prevention Team's diagnostic service is an excellent resource.
